Shiny Napoleonics... Waldeck Line Infantry.

 Greetings...

Another new unit finished for this project...

The Waldeck Line Infantry Battalion...

This unit was part of the 3rd Provisional Infantry Regiment which was part of the North German Federal Army Corps in June 1815...

My reason for picking this unit is of course because it’s pretty...

The figure I used was a Minifigs Intermediate Range French infantryman altered to look suitably German.

This was a very useful book for the uniform details...

Apparently this unit did not carry a standard even when it was part of The Confederation of the Rhine...
I am going to paint a Prussian Fusilier unit and as they didn’t carry standards either, these guys shouldn’t stand out as unusual...

The Uniform is... Citadel... Pallid Wych Flesh.
The Belts are... Citadel... Corax White.
The Facings are... Citadel... Hoeth Blue.
The Muskets and Packs are... Citadel... Mournfang Brown.
The Greatcoat is... Citadel... Administration Grey.
As usual everything was given a wash of Aly’s Brown Liquid and re-highlighted with the original colours.
The belts were brought up to pure White.

All the best.  Aly

  1. Very sharp looking infantry battalion! Will they fight as good as they look?

Apparently they weren’t all that good and were only issued a handful of rounds each....
So definitely style over content in this case...

  3. Very nice, even with a simply coloured uniform.

  4. Nicely done Aly but aren't you cheating a bit, creating your own "old style" figures by amending the figures to a unit that wasn't actually produced in 1970...or am I being too picky!?

Ah! No not cheating at all.... I would have done this in 1970 as well... except that I would have used Plastic Wood, Isopon or even Plasticine hardened with Banana Oil... all of which would have been a pain to use.
I would have avoided soldering though...I had tried it when I was about twelve and discovered that I could melt the head off a Hinton Hunt figure in a nanosecond 😱

  8. Pretty is as good a reason as any, better than most to be honest, as these do it very well indeed!

  9. No flag? They are doomed! But, grand addition to the running away element of the collection.

Flag or no flag... if they are under my command... the are running away 😁

  10. Nice work Aly, brings back fond memories. I remember painting my own unit but with Prince August mould conversions.

I would love to paint them again at some stage but use the flash Perry miniatures !

    Cheers

I think Alan Perry’s Confederation of the Rhine Range are some of the prettiest units he’s done...

If I command them they will probably loose the flag anyway 😂

  12. Beautiful unit Aly, but you are a beast if you did that much Green Stuff work on each figure! I have decided the Dutch Grenadiers will be my next unit and am trying to decide how to paint the white uniforms. Is your approach simply and undercoat of white with a thinned black wash for some shadows? The look is great and would be the simplest solution. Lovely work as usual!

I usually use an off white for the uniforms and pure white/blue white for the belts...
Flat colours with a wash of... Aly’s Brown Liquid

Then highlighted with the original shade...

I look forward to seeing your grenadiers... will they be Hinton Hunts?

      All the best. Aly

  13. If only! They will be Der Kriegspielers. The joy in this will be the challenge of taking a less than optimal figure and trying to make something worthwhile out of it! I do enjoy the challenge, but like your adding of Green Stuff to all of your troopers, I think the prep stage will take longer than the painting. First step is to strip them to see what I really have to work with. Thanks for the heads up on your technique.
