ALY MORRISON'S "BUTTERFLY" ADVENTURES IN THE WORLD OF WARGAMES AND TOY SOLDIERS

The War of 1812… The 85th Light Infantry.

Greetings…

Here is the next unit for this project…

The 85th Light Infantry…

I picked this regiment mostly for the yellow facings… it’s a classic look for the British.

Like all the units I have painted so far … this one has turned out really well… it is indeed a classic colour combination.

The Tunics are… Citadel… Evil Sunz Scarlet.

The Facings are… Foundry… Ochre 4B.

The Trousers are… Foundry… Grey Light 32C.

The Greatcoats are… Citadel… Administratum Grey.

The White bits etc. Are… Citadel… Pallid Wytch Flesh.

The Belts are… Citadel… Corax White.

The Muskets are… Citadel… Mournfang Brown.

The Water Bottles are… Foundry… Sky Light 21C.

The Water Bottle Straps are… Citadel… Skrag Brown.

The Sashes are… Citadel… Mephiston Red.

The Knapsacks are… Foundry… Moss Light 29C.

As always everything was given a coat of Aly’s Brown Liquid and then highlighted with the original colours… the belts were then worked up to pure white.

The figures are from Knuckleduster Miniatures

The paints are Wargames Foundry and Citadel...

The bases are as always...

Things have been a bit slow on the blogging front this month… there is no particular reason that I can think of other that a touch of world weariness as it gets towards the end of yet another problematic year…Hopefully things will actually improve in 2022 and the lunatics will stop running the asylum.

Mharaid is coming over for a game on Boxing Day…Hurrah!

This year we will be going for 3rd Century Rome v’s Sassanids… it was the chance of using the elephant that swung it…

I will be saving up the snowman for something suitably daft next Xmas.

I wish you all a Very Merry Xmas and a Prosperous New Year…

All the best   Aly

P.S….

Drinky the Snowman sends you Seasonal Greetings.

All I can say in my defence is that most of the pictorial reference is water damaged but at least the headdress was correct…🤪

  7. Great color scheme for your British infantrymen, and the yellow facings add a touch of originality. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but maybe it was destined that the last post before the holidays showed soldiers in red and white uniforms, very Christmas style ... Have fun with the Sassanid elephants under the snow of December, and Merry Christmas to you from both of us!

Yes the uniforms do have a festive look to them…
Fortunately there is only one elephant…and I suspect that that is going to cause enough trouble…

  9. Merry Christmas. Looking forward to seeing elephants - always look good, even if they don't always perform to expectations.

As Mharaid will probably be using it, a lack of performance would be appreciated (by me).

  13. Lovely fugures! (I had to scramble when reading the 85th, sometimes I almost forget the two seaborne invasions of the US!

I thought for a minute there would be a snow elephant on the table thus year but a real one will do (a miniature real one...)

May you and yours enjoy a safe and merry Christmas.

Yes there were quite a few British units who paid visits to America’s shores.

      A Snow Elephant… now there’s a thought 😁

  16. A great looking unit and great paint job. The 85th is one of my favorite units from the War of 1812. George R. Gleig served as an officer with them and I greatly enjoyed his account if Brandenburg and New Orleans.

    1. Thank you Mark…
I don’t have Gleig’s account… but I remember skimming through an original copy many years ago along with a book called something like Our Recent War With France which had details of the War of 1812 as an addenda at the back of the book.

      All the best. Aly
