Shiny Napoleonics… The Thuringian Battalion… Part 2

Greetings…

Yes!… I have indeed completed another stand for this project…

The Weimar Continent…

The figures are again slightly altered Minifigs NN7 Nassau Infantry.

Given how simple the uniform is, this stand has taken a ridiculous amount of time to finish.

I put this down to Real Life, Hot Weather and Work… All getting in the way.

That said…They are done and I am very pleased with them.

Two down… Two more to go… So finished by 2025😁.

The Tunics are… Foundry… Forest Green Shade 26B.
The Yellow bits are… AK Interactive… Volcanic Yellow AK11042.
The Trousers are… Citadel… Administratum Grey.

The paints were Citadel, Wargames Foundry and AK Interactive.

The bases are as always…

I have made a start to the next stand… Hopefully they will not take as long.

Having said that… The builders are due to return soon and my Butterfly is flexing its muscles at the moment 😁

All the best.   Aly

  4. I was aware that the Thuringian Battalion was unique, but did not know that there were internal variations of uniform: learned something today (thanks)--and they look splendid (and shiny)!

They wore individual uniforms up until late 1813 then acquired a more Prussian style.

  6. They have turned out nice Aly, it is so tempting to do an 25mm Minifigs glossy army. Thanks for sharing.

  7. An excellent slice of progress, the black musket slings give a business like look and the green and yellow is a nice colour combination.
[Meanwhile will you reveal anything of the butterflies that are fluttering overhead?]

Well I’ve been sticking lots of Napoleonics for The Hundred Days Campaign… And I may have picked up some rather nice Hellenistic Greeks that would be perfect for a Pyrrhic army…
I have no idea when they will see paint though.

  8. Don't shoo that butterfly away, it shows your mojo is emerging from its chrysalis - that is a 'good thing'.

  9. Very nice and shiny! You are not alone in having the elements conspire against progress at the workbench.

  10. So you should be pleased with them. I agree about the weather - my painting area is behind south facing window. I don't know what dries out first; the paint or the water in the brush jar!

It’s particularly annoying when the paint starts to dry out when it’s on the brush… before you even get it close to the figure…

  11. Bloody Brits and the weather....who else would complain about getting a couple of weeks of warm sunshine, after two months of sub standard "summer" weather??! It's not like there are raging bush fires in Sherwood Forest, lol!
The Bund regiments with a different uniform per company have always been a temptation on the very edge if my radar....I was looking at them all on the Perry site just a couple of days ago actually.....talking of 🦋

    1. The sunshine is splendid… no painting because I am sat outside enjoying it and reading a good book.(Rome…a history in seven sackings… by Matthew Kneale )
Unfortunately for every day of sun we are having three of rain, wind or clouds… which plays havoc with my aching bones.
The Perry Confederation of the Rhine figures are rather nice…a perfect butterfly project.

  16. Your treatment of the s-series never ceases to amaze. I really must get to my Spanish Grenadiers using the s-series and do my best to copy your technique. Keep 'em coming Aly!

I’ve started work on the next stand
It’s slow progress but I think it’s going to make for a nice unusual unit…
I look forward to seeing your Spanish when they are done.

  17. As said above, really love the way you treat these minifigs castings. Quite the best painting that I have seen for these figures. Will they be going into action at any point?

They certainly will be seeing action at some point…
I need/want to add a couple more things and I have yet to make some suitable terrain pieces.
Of course the fact that the table is currently covered in boxes at the moment doesn’t help 😁

  18. Hello Aly,
I didn't get it quite right to my taste on my shiny Warrior Miniatures toys, but I think this technique may be it.
May I ask, thinking of the green uniforms of the Nassauers, and not having foundry available, what green would you recommend?

    Best wishes
    Peter

    1. Hi Peter…
There are a couple of colours that may come close to the Foundry Forest Green…
Citadel Loren Forest … which is a bit lighter…
      And…
Citadel Waaagh Flesh… which is darker…

I hope this is of some help to you…

      All the best. Aly

    2. Yes, thank you. The Citadel range is available at the local game store in the next town. Studying the paint racks led me to discover Army Painters' Army Green is also a viable option.
