ALY MORRISON'S "BUTTERFLY" ADVENTURES IN THE WORLD OF WARGAMES AND TOY SOLDIERS

The War of Spanish Succession...Lots of stuff

Greetings...
I was going to show these units over a couple of posts ...then I thought... what the hell all or nothing...

First up some British command...

Here we have Sir William Cadogan and a senior General...Well that's the catalogue description..
For me they will be Brigadier with dog and friend...

Here we have General Armstrong and Lord Cutts looking at something interesting...

Brigadiers with suspect artwork...

Both these command stands were painted the same way as I painted the Duke of Marlborough...

Now we have two of the cavalry units that I had painted for me by Art Master Studio..

https://www.artmasterstudio.co.uk/

The French Dauphin-Etranger Cavalry Regiment...

These chaps saw action at amongst others...

Blenheim
Oudenaarde
And Malplaquet...

The French Cavalry Regiment Cuirassiers Du Roi...

This unit saw action mostly in Italy at...

Luzzara.
Castelnouvo Di Bormida.
Vercelli.
Ivrea.
Verrua.
Cassano.
And Turin...

I am really pleased with these figures and I found the whole process of dealing with Art Master a pleasure...
I must admit that I did touch a few little bits up...we are talking minutes work here... but that's me... can't leave anything alone...
I based them myself and also gloss varnished the leather goods and made the standards...

Would I get them to do more... yes.

Next...

The French Infantry Regiment... Royal La Marine..

These guys got around a bit...seeing action at...

Cassano.
Turin.
Oudenaarde.
And Malplaquet... amongst others.

This is the last of my EBay purchases... they took a lot longer to scrub up than I would have like and are partly responsible for my decision to commission figures painted professionally...
My thoughts being...time equals money... so why not just pay the money and get what you want...

Lastly...

The Royal Irish regiment.(The 18th Regiment of foot)...

They saw action at...

Blenheim.
Ramillies.
Oudenarde.
And Malplaquet..

This is another of the units that I bought from my friend Adrian...
All I did was
Base, Flag and varnish the leather goods...

So not a bad batch of toys... things are moving along nicely...

There are two more cavalry units to base up... And I have now got the French command and artillery for both sides on the painting mountain... so a game is getting closer and closer... Hurrah!

The miniatures are as always Front Rank...

The paints are Wargames Foundry and Citadel...

Bases from Warbases...

The standards were all made by me using Robert Hall plates from the Pike And Shot Society and Photoshop...
And lets be honest... For me its all about the flags...

  1. Bloody lovely. Particualrly like the Marines in white and the grenadier chap throwing the grenade from the flank of the Royal Irish. Not seen that pose before - but as you know I know nothing of the period so i'm just displaying my ignorance. Overall a great display that's inspiring to folks like me who find the painting side of the hobby a chore to be endured. Just shows what can be done.

    1. Thank you...
It is very colourful period and well worth getting into...
I have always loved the painting side of the hobby... this is probably why it takes me so long to get things done... although these days I have sped things up a bit.
For someone who finds painting a chore you certainly put on a splendid display yourself... clearly well worth the pain...;-)...

      All the best. Aly

  3. All beautiful, but I do like the simplicity of the narrative that is in that British Command base.

  5. These look excellent Aly, worthy additions to your collection and the commissioned painting matches your own style very well. It would be great to see a set up of your collection thus far, have you gamed with it much?
