Shiny Napoleonics... 3rd (Dutch) Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard

Greetings...
Here we have another unit for this project...

The 3rd (Dutch) Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard...

I have used a slightly different painting style for these... I know...I will settle down soon...

I undercoated the figures with... Citadel Corax White... Then gave them a wash of Contrast Apothecary White...
Everything was highlighted with Corax White... Then given another highlight with Corax White plus some pure white...
Plumes and Epaulets are... Citadel... Evil Sunz Scarlet... Which was given a diluted wash of... Contrast Blood Angel Red... This was highlighted with Evil Sunz Scarlet...
Facings... Citadel... Wazdaka Red.
Backpack and Musket... Citadel... Mournfang Brown.
Greatcoat... Citadel... Caledor Sky.
Straps were blocked in with Corax White then painted pure white...

The bases are from Warbases...
https://warbases.co.uk/

And the Standards are from GMB Designs...
https://gmbdesigns.com/product-category/28mm-range/28mm-range-napoleonic-wars/

I ended up using more flat colours than I would normally as I wanted the shading on the white to stand out a bit... it has come out quit subtle...
Overall I am rather pleased with these toys...

Next up... more Sassanids...

  1. Excellent! The 3rd Dutch Grenadiers was one of the first Imperial Guard units I painted in 15mm more than 25 years ago. It still fights on but rarely...

  2. Gorgeous!
Do I detect a penchant for white uniforms, Aly? How very autocratic of you!

Are these S-Range or later Minifigs?
    All the best, Matthew

    1. Thank you Matt...
They are either S Range or S Range intermediates... with a Lamming drummer...

I do like white uniforms... so Italians...including Neapolitans, Saxons, Westphalians and even Austrians are all on the to do list... ;-)

      All the best. Aly

  3. Very nice indeed. You've got to love white uniforms AND bearskins. The Austrians cannot have it all to themselves.

  4. Another nice shiny addition Aly...I was going to ask what manufacturer these figures were from...they didn't quite look like Minifigs to me...but obviously I was mistaken!

Some of these earlier MiniFigs were quite dynamic in there posing.

  6. Now Aly I am sure this must have been the range of Napoleonic's which featured in so many of the early books on wargaming when I was a young boy. They do look so wonderful .

You do see early Minifigs popping up in all the great wargames armies of the past... along side Hinton Hunt,Lamming and Hinchcliffe... to name but a few.

  8. Another brilliant selection Aly. They remind me of the photos in Charles Grant Snr.'s Napoleonic Wargaming, which I think were of Peter Gilder's collection.

  11. Absolutely beautiful figures and they look amazing enmass. Love the old school look which brings back memories of old Column, Line and Square games. Especially like the painting list of what you used and where you got it. Very inspirational. Thank you!

One of the things I tell my friends, is that now I can afford it I am reliving a childhood I never had...
I have always found it useful when others show some of the ‘process’... so I have made an effort to do the same here... I am glad if it can be a help.

      All the best. Aly

  17. These are truly magnificent and love that you were able to make the early Minifigs look so splendid. I must admit I'm rather intimidated to have a go at my DK unit now, given that I don't think they will compare favorably...

Clean lines and a good coat of gloss varnish covers a multitude of vintage sins..
