ALY MORRISON'S "BUTTERFLY" ADVENTURES IN THE WORLD OF WARGAMES AND TOY SOLDIERS

Shiny Napoleonics… French 18th Line Infantry Sappers.

Greetings…

As Covid has given me a few grey days I thought I would cheer things up with something nice and shiny…

A couple of 18th Infantry Regiment Sappers…

Why the 18th?…

I already have the regiment in my collection… And they are very pretty…

The figures are Minifigs…Possibly Intermediate Range.
It was indeed a lot of fun painting these…
There will definitely be more shiny things coming in the near future…

The Tunics are… Citadel… Hoeth Blue.
Facings are… Citadel… Wazdakka Red.
White Bits are… Citadel… Pallid Wych Flesh.
Belts are… Citadel… Corax White.
Greatcoats are… Citadel… Administratum Grey.
Packs are… Citadel… Mournfang Brown.

As  usual everything was give a wash of Aly’s Brown Liquid and then highlighted with the original shade.

All the best.  Aly

  2. Lovely Sappers. Is the first figure playing a didgeridoo?.

I thought everyone new that the didgeridoo was the chosen instrument of the French Sappers…

If a sapper can’t get on with a bit of sappering… then what can he do?

  5. Nice work Aly - I think I had either one or both of these figures back in the mid 70's - they would not have ben shiny though, even way back then - Humbrol Autheticolor Enamels would have been the paint of choice! Covid marches ever closer - my son's (20)girlfriend succumbed over the weekend - fortunately he was away with mates and has not seen her for a couple of days - in normal circumstances, she might have been here half the weekend!

Humbrol Authenticolour Enamels… I remember when they came out… a true wonder of technology at the time 😁.
This latest strain may not be as bad as others… but it is still not nice so take care old chap… and don’t lick any strangers…

      All the best. Aly

  8. We are happy that you have recovered from the covid, so much so that you are back "shiny"!
We always wondered how the Napoleonic sappers were able to work (or even play the didgeridoo) effectively with an apron wrapping his legs, a huge bearskin on his head and a backpack on his shoulders ... Some historical reenactment group will have ever tried to recreate these torturing working conditions?

Yes I can’t imagine doing any kind of manual labour wearing all that rather attractive uniform…
Style over content/practically as an old girlfriend of mine used to say…

  11. Lovely work there and glad to hear you're on the mend. I can't imagine they would have kept the headgear and back pack on whilst working, but then they wouldn't look as good to us!

It’s all about the look… isn’t it… I can’t imagine wearing the headgear let alone doing anything it it….

  12. I've always liked sappers, must be something about watching work rather than doing it myself.

(Of course when it comes to sappers working in bearskins and the like, once I've thought oooohh I then think, working with your expensive, awkward bearskin on? not your forage cap? really? then I go back to ooh shiny!....)

  13. First - These are lovely!
Second - Can you imagine trying to get any real work done while wearing a bearskin, much less swing an axe over head with one? I have a feeling there must have been a lot of one-legged sappers!

They are lovely… but a health and safety nightmare…

  16. These are fabulous, do you have more in your lead pile? A second set cut in half and mounted on a glossy piece of acetate would look great stood in a river alongside a trestle bridge.
