Greetings…
Yup!…
The butterfly has landed.
After the youngsters ( sorry guys … you will always be the youngsters 😁) at work had had a couple of enjoyable games using Lion Rampant they were eager to try something new and exciting for themselves.
After throwing a few ideas into the hat.. We decided that the Wars of the Roses ticked all the right boxes.
I dug out some inspirational material…
I picked up some standards from Petes flags on eBay…
https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/petes_flags
We chose sides…
Based on careful research …. “Oooo! That’s pretty.” 🤣
So far we have…
John Bochier.
Somerset.
Jasper Tudor.
Hastings.
Fouconberg.
And De La Pole… Me.
There will also be some dodgy Continental mercenaries.
Side changing will definitely happen.😈
After a quick bit of research we found out that most of our “characters” met their end in unfortunate and possibly entertaining circumstances… Hurrah!
The plan is to throw whatever we have on the table in the new year and see who survives…
There will probably be a test run out before then though.
Next time… Some painted toys.
All the best. Aly
Great stuff, I look forward to seeing it evolve.
ReplyDeleteI think it’s going to be a lot of fun…

Looks like a terrific plan, Aly!
ReplyDeleteLet’s hope so…😁

Always had a liking for John de la Pole myself too.
ReplyDeleteNice banners as well as an interesting history….

Pete's flags are lovely. I got some of his WotR for my unfulfilled project. I have the lead....
ReplyDeleteNeil
He does a nice range ….
DeleteI certainly picked my retinue because of the pretty flag 😁
All the best. Aly
Looking forward to seeing this play out on the games table:).
ReplyDeleteSo am I… I suspect I will get massacred 🤣
DeleteAll the best. Aly
LR is certainly an enjoyable game, personally always been a Neville man myself - I'd be OK with either brother Richard or John, but also a soft spot for Lovell as I used live close to Minster Lovell.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing your retinue come off the painting table.
When you start reading about this series of wars and the people involved… very few of them have any redeeming features…
DeleteWhich is what’s going to make this a lot of fun 🤣
All the best. Aly
Look forward to seeing this grow and develop - you'll do the WOTR proud.
ReplyDeleteI suspect there will be betrayal all round…
DeleteJust like the real thing.😁
All the best. Aly
What? No Sir Daniel Brackley, Sir Richard Sheldon or even Crookback Dick aka Richard, Duke of York and?
ReplyDeleteGive it time… we are adding more players as we go along.
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Grr my dog just published that while I was trying to edit that comment!
ReplyDeleteHe/she maybe thought you had said enough 😂
DeleteYou have plenty of reference material ready for the new project.
ReplyDeleteI think there are a few more books hidden away in some boxes…
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Nice stuff Aly - if you can figure out who did what and which Neville is who, and on which side, you are a better man than I! It's doubtless a fascinating period, if you can overcome all these conundrums!
ReplyDeleteMostly people changed sides and got beheaded… and someone got thrown of a ship in the English Channel…
DeleteOur games will probably play out in a similar way 😁
All the best. Aly
Looking forward to seeing the painted minis Aly! I really like the quality of Petes Flags. I have the Burgundian banners from him and they look great, I just need to finally used them :-)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Jan
I look forward to seeing your Burgundians…

Good choice Aly.
ReplyDeleteI reckon it’s going to be a lot of fun…

What a delightful sounding project, I look forward to some painted figures and then further on lots of failed activations!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
That sounds about right for me…😂
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Will follow with interest … spookily, I bought the Dan Jones book the other day AND received my Pete’s Flags - I picked up the Stanleys (both Sir William and Lord Stanley) and Fauconberg. There must be something in the water! 🙂
ReplyDeleteWe are clearly hip and down with the kids … as far as Wars of the Roses is concerned…. 😁
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Sounds like it will be a romp. Do you have a campaign structure in mind or will it be more of a linked battles sort of affair?
ReplyDeleteIt should be a lot of fun… we are all prepared to twist and change history…
DeleteI think we will probably go for a series of linked battles to start things off.. and get everyone used to the rules.
All the best. Aly
I'll be watching this flutter with interest Aly...it is a favourite period for me.
ReplyDeleteIt will only be a little flutter at the moment… but you know how these things can grow…
