A Splendid New Book…

Greetings …

One of my (not so) guilty pleasures are Battleships…

Ironclads, Pre-Dreadnoughts and Dreadnoughts…

I have a few books and a few French and British Ironclads deep in the lead Alp…

I also find encouragement from my chum David Crook on his excellent blog…

http://awargamingodyssey.blogspot.com/

And this excellent YouTube channel…

Now… My lovely daughter knows this… And she is very clever and very generous…

It’s my birthday tomorrow and she came round to give my presents and take me out for a meal today…

She brought me this big old beauty of a book…

This is part of an eight volume set… I think I know what is coming to me over the next few Xmas’s and Birthdays 😁…
The drawings are superb and full of details…
I know I won’t be rushing out and building huge fleets of ships but I will certainly be thumbing through these pages and enjoying them for what they are… Little works of art.

Here is some of the content…

Have I got a big smile on my face…

I have a big smile on my face 😁😁😁

All the best.  Aly

  3. Nice present. Must admit I like old books about warships. Got a few lying around. Not sure, but I think I could know of the set though don't have any of them myself.

I suspect if I manage to get all eight volumes that I will have to re enforce the floor…😁

  8. Happy Birthday old chap! I love the ironclads. I have the whole Austrian and Italian fleets from 1866. I must organise another game with them. I also scratch built two French ships (Ocean and Solferino, and a couple more Prussian ships).

  10. Who's a lucky boy then? That book looks like the ultimate in naval eye candy - I do hope you're right about what future birthdays and Christmases will bring , although you'll have to be good.
I'm a keen viewer of drachininfel already and just got back from Partizan with "British Cruiser Warfare - Lessons of the Early War 1939-1941"
Not battleships I know, but cruisers probably had the most active careers. A quick peruse has already flagged up a number actions I hadn't heard of.

    1. I am definitely a lucky boy…
I’ve been fascinated by the naval developments from the early Ironclads through to the Dreadnoughts for years and these books put it all… beautifully drawn… in more or less one/eight place/places 😁…
It would be nice to be “good enough “ to get all eight volumes.
      I will try my best…
