Greetings …
One of my (not so) guilty pleasures are Battleships…
Ironclads, Pre-Dreadnoughts and Dreadnoughts…
I have a few books and a few French and British Ironclads deep in the lead Alp…
I also find encouragement from my chum David Crook on his excellent blog…

And this excellent YouTube channel…

Now… My lovely daughter knows this… And she is very clever and very generous…
It’s my birthday tomorrow and she came round to give my presents and take me out for a meal today…
She brought me this big old beauty of a book…
The drawings are superb and full of details…
I know I won’t be rushing out and building huge fleets of ships but I will certainly be thumbing through these pages and enjoying them for what they are… Little works of art.
Here is some of the content…
Have I got a big smile on my face…
I have a big smile on my face 😁😁😁
All the best. Aly
Splendid gift, indeed! Pre-dreadnought warfare is one of my preferred naval periods too.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!
Thank you Jonathan…
DeleteIt’s a fascinating period…
All the best. Aly
A very thoughtful present Aly....and a clever one by your daughter.....now, she has several years worth of birthday and Christmas presents sorted out !😉
ReplyDeleteShe knows her dad well 😁
DeleteAnd I think it sounds like a perfect plan…
All the best. Aly
Nice present. Must admit I like old books about warships. Got a few lying around. Not sure, but I think I could know of the set though don't have any of them myself.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is a nice present…
DeleteIt’s the quality of the draftsmanship that impresses me…
All the best. Aly
What a lovely gift to get, as you say they are indeed little works of art.
ReplyDeleteA lovely gift indeed…
DeleteAnd all done without the aid of CAD.
All the best. Aly
What a great book - I have a bit of a ship thing too and a birthday soon!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should start dropping some hints 😈
DeleteAll the best. Aly
What a smashing birthday present! I shall look out for bulging bags of pre dreadnoughts 🚢🚢🚢at Partizan today! Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteThank you David…

A joyous looking tome, a birthday gift to treasure and no mistake.
ReplyDeleteAnd it is indeed a tome…
DeleteI suspect if I manage to get all eight volumes that I will have to re enforce the floor…😁
All the best. Aly
Happy Birthday old chap! I love the ironclads. I have the whole Austrian and Italian fleets from 1866. I must organise another game with them. I also scratch built two French ships (Ocean and Solferino, and a couple more Prussian ships).
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark…
DeleteIt would indeed be nice to see your fleets in action…
All the best. Aly
The perils of the printed word! As addictive as the shiny little solders!
ReplyDeleteSays he glancing shamefaced at the growing pile of books......
Neil
I reckon there are worse things to be addicted to 😁.
DeleteAll the best. Aly
Who's a lucky boy then? That book looks like the ultimate in naval eye candy - I do hope you're right about what future birthdays and Christmases will bring , although you'll have to be good.
ReplyDeleteI'm a keen viewer of drachininfel already and just got back from Partizan with "British Cruiser Warfare - Lessons of the Early War 1939-1941"
Not battleships I know, but cruisers probably had the most active careers. A quick peruse has already flagged up a number actions I hadn't heard of.
I am definitely a lucky boy…
DeleteI’ve been fascinated by the naval developments from the early Ironclads through to the Dreadnoughts for years and these books put it all… beautifully drawn… in more or less one/eight place/places 😁…
It would be nice to be “good enough “ to get all eight volumes.
I will try my best…
All the best. Aly
Interesting book Aly although not a subject I know much about. Would be nice to see you get a few models 👍
ReplyDeleteIt’s a cracker Matt…
DeleteI may have got some models 😈
All the best. Aly

Thank you Iain…

All the best. Aly
Won't be building big fleets...funny stuff! (But a lovely gift!).
ReplyDeleteWell there might be a couple of small ones… 😁

ReplyDeleteWillz.
It certainly is Willz…
