Greetings…
I managed to pick up nine more of the very charming Merit Alder trees…
I have assembled and painted them in the same way as I did with my previous ones…

They have turned out nicely…. There is actually a bit more contrast between the trees and the bases but I think the sheer amount of green is confusing the camera.
I would like to get some Poplar and Fir trees at some point … I shall be keeping my eBay eyes open.
The only bump in the road was when I almost sprayed them grey instead Matt varnish… 😳
Both tins had clear lids… I have now sprayed the lid for the grey…. Grey.😁
All the best. Aly
Very handsome copse of trees. Having had disastrous mix-ups with spray vanish and spray paint, I now check the label twice and spray once.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jonathan…
DeleteI think I may keep the tins in separate rooms 🤣
All the best. Aly
Very nice work on the old Merit trees, which tend to come in varying odd shades of green. The poplar were very common when I was collecting them, with firs a bit scarcer and the adler rarer still.
ReplyDeleteCheck out the model railway sections on eBay or just search for "Merit" if you want more hits.
Neil
Thank you Neil…
DeleteI search reasonably regularly for Merit Trees on eBay… I have my eye on some Poplars at the moment… my preference is for the older trees in the cardboard boxes which seem to me to be made of better plastic.
All the best. Aly
Nice, what are they mounted on? I put mine on big washers to weight them down and make them fairly stable. I have lots of these and the fir trees but only about half a dozen of the poplars. I recently acquired another three alders but not based and painted them (or the accompanying hedges) yet.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rob…
DeleteMine are based on MDF… They seem to be fairly stable.
I’m not sure about the hedges…but I may get some anyway just for the sake of completeness 😁
All the best. Aly
They are very nice indeed, a cracking find.
ReplyDeleteThank you Donnie…

Not heard of those before, but they look great.

Treemendous!
ReplyDeleteI seed what you did there…😁

I'm so impressed you have taken the time to paint them. I have left mine in their unadulterated natural funky shiny plastic state, but yours have me rethinking that decision...
ReplyDeleteThey were quite quick to paint David…
DeleteA spray a drybrush and varnish.
It seemed odd having something unpainted on the table… but that may just be me.
All the best. Aly
Aaah Merit trees.
ReplyDeleteNostalgia on a stick (well in a box actually but you get what I mean).
Too true Matt…

These are a revelation. I'll have to check them out.
ReplyDeleteMerit were a very British Model Railway company supplying all sorts of accessories… Including little boxes of realistic (real) coal….

A splendid addition to the shiny project! Good luck in the neverending search for more!
ReplyDeleteThank you David…
DeleteI have already ordered a few more…

Thank you Iain…

Looking forward to seeing this project laid out on a table sometime, Aly. It will be fab! Phil
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil…
DeleteOnce I have made some suitable terrain I will get them out on the table and do battle…
All the best. Aly
The old Merit trees can look quite respectable when painted and you have done an excellent job Aly.
DeleteThank you Bob…
DeleteIt was a fairly quick job but it has made a big difference…
All the best. Aly
