Shiny Napoleonics… The Thuringian Battalion… Part 3

Hurrah!…

Another stand painted…

This unit has really been like pulling teeth… I honestly don’t understand why it has taken me so long…

But here they are…

The Coburg Contingent…

They have been pretty much painted in the same way as the Weimar Continent but with Evil Sunz Scarlet turnbacks and white belts…

https://alystoysoldiers.blogspot.com/2024/08/shiny-napoleonics-thuringian-battalion.html

All I have to do now is the command stand… which is in a very Prussian looking uniform…

Hopefully this won’t take too long…

As I write this Nottingham is in the middle of an incredible full on thunder, lightning and rain storm…

The rain is quite literally flailing the back of my house… I opened the back door to try and watch the lightning… but I had to close it because my shoes were getting soaked…

That will be the end of summer then…

I blinked and missed it 🤣…

All the best    Aly

  1. Sometimes units are like that.........
Being a bit more north, we have not had it bad, the odd flash of lighting.

    1. The irritating thing with these chaps is that the uniforms are fairly simple… so it should have been easier than it has been…
As you say… Some units are like that 😁

  3. Beautiful and shiny! I have a dozen French hussars that I simply cannot muster the motivation to complete. I know exactly how you feel.

There is a temptation to just put them in a box and come back to them later… but I am so close to finishing them… so I shall persevere…

  5. I am sure I had some of these figures in the previous millennium, Aly! Mine were painted as French, though.
We had weather like you are describing early Friday morning...0230 for about an hour...
We have actually had A LOT of lightning storms over the last three or four months...far more frequent than is usual, it feels like!

It does feel a bit like it’s been grey and raining since May…although that might be something to do with me working in an office with frosted glass in the windows…

  7. It's amazing how different they look with white cross -belts as opposed to black, possibly helped out by the yellow cuffs. C'mon now, one last push with the command stand and we can have a parade through the streets of Spielzeugstadt.

    1. Apart from a few subtle changes all three stands are made from the same figures…
They definitely deserve a parade 😁

  10. Lovely new contingent, the uniform is really nice, super work on them. Up in the far north we have just had a bit of dreich weather, lot colder but none of the heavy rain, summer, what there was of it, has gone that;s for sure.

I think most of my memories for this year will be in greyscale…
I need to paint some Hussars or Neapolitans 🤣

  12. A splendid and shiny addition there. You did not need to blink to miss summer though, it missed us to save the trouble. Just taken 32 mins to make a 10 min journey thanks to flood diversions. It never floods here!

So when I thought I was seeing flashing lights… it was just summer nipping past me 😱
I do sometimes wonder why I chose to live by the river…😳

  14. Sometimes the Mojo just takes a stubborn stand. They will probably fight better than the units created out of love! They look great nonetheless!

  17. Hi Aly, I do enjoy seeing your lovely Minifigs. What varnish do you use and does it go yellow after a while?

    1. Thank you Bob…
I’ve been using a few different varnishes… I’m still trying to find something that ticks all the boxes …
These have been varnished with Wilko’s Yacht Varnish… which is no longer available…
It does yellow a bit but not hideously…

    2. Thanks Aly, I have a couple of tins that I bought before Wilko closed down.

  18. Aly they may have been a challenge but they have turned out beautiful. …..and super shiny. As others have said some units just seem harder which is strange for these guys as their uniforms are fairly simple. Always seems to be grenadiers for me ….too much lace !

It’s a mystery to me why they have taken so long… only one more base to go… and they have been started.

  20. A nice looking unit Aly. I too have units that sit incomplete for months. Sometimes it's because the uniform is uninspiring, sometimes it's painting fatigue and other times because something more interesting comes along. It doesn't happen too often Hough.

  21. Nice and shiny! As to the wether... end of September and early October is my favourite part of the year with so called "Polish Golden Autumn", though this week temperatures dropped to around 1C in the morning which is quite a surprise ;-)

    Best wishes,
