ALY MORRISON'S "BUTTERFLY" ADVENTURES IN THE WORLD OF WARGAMES AND TOY SOLDIERS

Sunday 17 May 2020

A Song of Drums And Shakos... More Chasseurs de Montagne and some New Toys.

Greetings...
Another couple of Chasseurs... This time Grenadiers

These guys were of course painted in the same way as the Voltigeurs...

The Uniform is... Citadel... Doombull Brown... With a Diluted Contrast Gore-Grunta Fur wash.
The Facings and Piping are... Wargames Foundry... Sky Blue 21B.
The Red Bits are... Citadel... Evil Sunz Scarlet.
The White Bits are... Citadel... Pallid Wych Flesh.
The Water Bottle and Bayonet Scabbard are... Citadel... Skrag Brown.
The Pack and Musket Stock are... Citadel... Mournfang Brown.
The Greatcoat is... Citadel... Administratum Grey.
The Water bottle Strap is... Wargames Foundry... Buff Leather 7B.

As usual everything was given a wash of Aly's Brown Liquid and was highlighted with the original colour...
The Sky Blue, Red and White were all given a further highlight then the leather goods were gloss varnished.

The miniatures are Perry Miniatures...

During the week I also took delivery of some new toys

Sassanid Infantry and Cavalry... plus some Roman Cataphracts from Aventine Miniatures... https://aventineminiatures.co.uk/

Some of the lovely new Brunswick Infantry from Front Rank... https://www.frontrank.com/product-category/napoleonic/napoleonic-brunswick/brunswick-infantry-reinforcement-packs/

I also picked up a couple of 40mm American War of Independence figures... I have been curious to see what they looked like for some time... and I am very keen to get some paint on them.

Some more excellent shield transfers from Little Big Men Studios... https://www.littlebigmenstudios.com/

So plenty to get going on with...

All the best   Aly

  1. Marvelous painting on the chasseurs, Aly! From the load of recent purchases, are you single handedly trying to keep the hobby afloat?

It should keep me out of trouble for a while...
The 40mm toys are certainly an itch that’s needed scratching for a while... I will paint up these two and we will see where it takes me...

    1. The ‘Song of’ rules are very similar and quite flexible... I really enjoy using them.
Mharaid and I have just finished a virtual game using FaceTime and Photoshop... I came second 😁

  5. Lovely job and lots of new stuff in the painting pipeline! I really like Aventine miniatures. I got hold of their Samnite cavalry as an Italian ally to my Carthagnian army. Great sculpts!

  9. More snazzy Naps and more Sassanids to look forward to seeing, and what's not to like about Black Brunswickers, I remember being struck by a painting of them in a Waterloo book back in my school library.

The Brunswickers should be interesting to paint... I am going to try out some Contrast Paints on them.

  10. Splendid Nappys! I may have to check out D&S as another way to get figs on the table (it seems quite popular: I'm seeing it mentioned quite often).

Drums and Shakos are a nice little set of rules.... you get an enjoyable game with a few figures on the table...The historical accuracy really comes from you and how you decide to play....
