Greetings…
The old left arm seems to be functioning reasonably well now…
So here are another couple of rebased Roman units…
Fairly straightforward here…A bit of general sprucing plus some extra work on the shields and standard…
I also replaced a couple of spears.
These could probably be used for Romans,Romano-British or even Goths at a push.
More simple sprucing plus new shield transfers and spears…
Again these could happily be Roman,Romano-British or even Goths.
The bases are from Warbases…
The plastic spears are from Fireforge Games…

More to follow…
All the best Aly
Lovely as ever - your paint jobs always look so clean and precise, I would love to be able to reproduce that style.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rob…
DeleteThe figures are much as they were when I got them from David Bickley… apart from the rebasing and sprucing.
I was very pleased how close to my own style they were… Which will mean when ( There is no ‘if’ here) I add further units they will all fit in nicely.
All the best. Aly
What? Can everyone but me paint like this? No wonder I stick with vintage castings as the modern ones demand / deserve this sort of treatment.
DeleteI especially like the unit with the yellow star shields, they really pop out against the figures and your basing.
ReplyDeleteYes it’s a particularly nice looking unit…
DeleteAll the best. Aly
The yellow on blue shields really pop. Nice work on plowing through your rebasing. Good to see that your arm is working more effectively too!
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a pleasing colour combination Jonathan.
DeleteIt’s nice to get on with some decent hobby and my arm is baring up well…
All the best. Aly
Glad you're feeling better - where would be be without your best dice chucking arm? Those look splendid and the basing really sets them off.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rick…
DeleteI may try over arm dice throwing… It may be luckier 😂
All the best. Aly
They look great Aly. Mt gaming mate Julian went through a long period of hosting Dark Ages games with "Romano British" (Romans) representing the alleged King Arthur and his forces contesting control of Britain with various nasties from over the North Sea - they looked very like these figures!
ReplyDeleteThank you Keith…
DeleteThey probably were Foundry figures…for a while they were the only people doing a relatively complete range covering Late Roman,Romano- British and the various ’Barbarian’ armies.
In my opinion they are still some of the best.
All the best. Aly
Lovely rebasing on show there Aly, glad you are on the up now too. As to dice throwing...some of us are born unlucky, some achieve unluckiness, and some have unluckiness thrust upon us. By those pesky Dice Gods of course.
ReplyDeleteThank you David
DeleteUnfortunately I think I have been blessed with all three of your options 🤣
All the best. Aly
You're getting the hang of this lad, keep it up.
ReplyDeleteIt would seem so…And I’m even enjoying the process.
DeleteAll the best. Aly
I’d like to echo Phil’s comments above. You do seem to have a natural aptitude for this sort of stuff. I reckon you could go far in this hobby. Lol.
ReplyDeleteThank you old chap…
DeleteAre you actually suggesting that one could have a career involving toy soldiers 😱
All the best. Aly
Fine work as always Aly and glad to hear your arm is getting better. Mine has good and bad days, depending upon how much 'hard' work it does. If plenty of the latter it shakes too much to paint:(.
ReplyDeleteThank you Steve…
DeleteThe arm is not nearly as bad as it was … but I am still taking things easier than I would normally do.
All the best. Aly
Lovely looking units. Those shields really make them stand out. And that's very good work for someone with a dodgy arm! Hope it recovers fully soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you David…
DeleteFortunately most of the ‘sprucing up’ had been done before my arm decided it hated me…
The shields are the main thing you notice on these figures so it’s worth making sure that they are just right.
Things are well on the mend now…
All the best. Aly
Good to see you are out of woods and able to continue the splendid rebasing and tarting up the collection .
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil…
DeleteSadly these Romans won’t rebase themselves… I have suggested it to them… But they just ignore me 🤣
All the best. Aly
Glad to hear the arm is improving, the great thing about being a butterfly is that we always have lots of things at various stages of completion so whatever our issues we can generally find something to do. Love these figures a nice rebase. Makes me miss my Foundry army now…
ReplyDeleteThank you Graham…
DeleteYes being a butterfly does have its advantages sometimes.
The Foundry Ancients and Dark Age ranges are still some of the nicest around.
All the best. Aly
Lovely looking late Romans, glad your arm is getting better, I've got a variety of late Romans primed including some Foundry figures, a little on the small side next to others but with a bit of packing they're fine and very nicely sculpted!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain…
DeleteGiven their age the Foundry figures still hold their own against the more modern figures.
All the best. Aly
