ALY MORRISON'S "BUTTERFLY" ADVENTURES IN THE WORLD OF WARGAMES AND TOY SOLDIERS

Another Book…

Greetings …

Sadly no toys to show today as I have developed a case of Olecranon Bursitis which has made doing anything with my left hand/arm over the last week very painful…Fortunately my patented single finger typing technique means I can still post on the blog…

I have mostly been reading books…

Here is one that I have finished…

The Fall of English France 1449-53…

An excellent informative and engaging book…

I thoroughly enjoyed this, It’s a subject I know very little of and David Nicolle delivers a very good account of the actions that took part over this final period of the Hundred Years Wars.

It is everything I have come to expect from Osprey… and given my condition not to heavy to handle 😁.

The antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs seem to be working well… I have some Late Romans that need their bases flocked so you should see them sometime next week.

I suspect I am really not that good a patient… more of an impatient… but of course things are made a lot worse when you can’t paint your toys.

All the best.  Aly

  3. Being left handed that would really drive me mad, as I too am not a good patient. Hope it improves quickly and you can get back to painting etc sooner rather than later.

I have started to get back to painting and rebasing although I still have to rest my arm every half hour or so.

  5. I guess your butterfly is fluttering towards the late Middle Ages at the moment, Aly? :)

    1. I have always fluttered around the Middle Ages Keith…But I have never really done anything about it.
Having friends with particularly large collections seems to satisfy the butterfly…for the moment.

  6. Sorry to hear you are under the weather mate. Reading and research is always a good alternative activity - (interesting looking book, might have to invest in a copy of that myself).

“ Oh no… I can’t paint my toys… so I will just have to sit in my sunny garden and read a good book and sip a Gin and Tonic instead….Booo…Hooo”… First World problem or what.😂
It is a very interesting book…I am tempted to see what else is out there on the subject.

      All the best. Aly

Maybe I should try rolling dice with my left had for a while…It might still have some luck left in it…

  8. Resist the urge to aggravate the situation (been there); when I've been driven away from the keyboard, I have found consolation in rediscovering the joys of reading actual books (when propped carefully).

    1. You are correct Ed… Letting thing mend in their own got time is indeed the best thing… And reading a couple of good books is hardly punishment.

You are indeed correct…I can hear impatient murmuring coming from their boxes as I type.

  10. I do hope you get well soon, I don't know about the Olecranon bit but I've had Bursitis, not painful but my arm swelled up like a balloon and I couldn't bend the elbow at all. Hopefully yours will clear up just as quickly with the wonders of modern medicine - spare a thought for the level of medical support your Late Romans would've had.

      I am improving steadily…
The Olecranon is the end bit of your elbow…So we had the same but mine became infected.
I suspect the Roman medicine would have been a bit more brutal.

I found it very interesting… I think the latter days of the Hundred Years War are a bit overshadowed by the Wars of the Roses in the U.K.

  15. Hope you're recovering well, sitting reading in the garden with a G&T sounds like the best medicine! It's a book on my long wishlist, I like most things I've read by David Nicolle!
