Greetings.
Earlier this year when I met up with my new chum Tony (AKA MS Foy)
http://prometheusinaspic.blogspot.com/2020/04/a-touch-of-class.html
I offered to paint up some Les Higgins French Cuirassiers for him...
I had bought these quite a while ago but they didn't really fit in with the rest of my Shiny Napoleonics so it made perfect sense for them to join his splendid collection...
They are lovely little miniatures with some nice delicate details...
It was an interesting diversion to paint something up in someone else's style... Thought I did use Citadel Contrast Colours on the horses...
I painted them bit by bit as I had the right colours on my brush while working on my own toys.
I have left them un-based and have not attached the standard pole as these are things that Tony will do, to make sure the figures fit in with the rest of his collection...
It must be said that even in these strange and difficult times the GPO still works wonders... the parcel was posted mid morning on Tuesday... and arrived in Scotland on Wednesday afternoon.
I look forwards to reading about all their glorious victories...
All the best Aly
Excellent work and an equally grand gesture to offer these fine horsemen up to Tony. Good job!

There is a beautiful clarity and simplicity about Higgins figures which I think you have brought out perfectly, Aly. The conversions are first class.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine why you didn't think they'd shine up nicely next to your other troops. Nevertheless, there's no doubt that Tony will treasure them. He's a real connoisseur.
Best regards
WM
Thank you Matt...
DeleteI agree they are lovely toy soldiers...But their build and animation made them stand out to much beside the Minifigs... I wasn’t sure what to do with them...
Then I met Tony...😁

Nice.

Lovely work on these Aly. I had a very few Les Higgins once upon a time....were they 20 or 25mm? I think I had a couple if guard lancers and a few others...maybe a dozen infantry
ReplyDeleteThank you Keith...
DeleteI would say that they are small 25’s... if that makes any sense 😁
All the best. Aly
Yes make perfect sense and that was my memory of them...I remember having a very few ECW or possibly even Thrre Musketeers figures from the Sam manufacturer...they were a bit simple and wooden by today's standards but quite nice detail...
DeleteGreat work there Aly.
ReplyDeleteThank you Nate.

Those are very fine pieces Aly.
ReplyDeleteThank you David...
DeleteIt’s nice that they now have a chance of doing battle... instead of sitting in a box somewhere in the lead mountain.
All the best. Aly
Aly,
ReplyDeleteexcellent work on these guys especially the conversions. So much wasted talent working on the big guys. :)
Thank you Graham...
DeleteThe big guys take much much longer...😁
All the best. Aly
Well now those are truly wonderful! What do I have to do to get on your good side? I have only ever been able to find one of these. They just don't show up on my side of the pond very often. I was however just able to complete the collection of enough Les Higgins Old Guard Grenadiers for a unit thanks to Wellington Man. I can only hope they will turn out this well, but they will be shiny! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you David...
DeleteI haven’t seen that many Les Higgins available on this side of the pond either... I think Tony has most of them...
I look forward to seeing your grenadiers...
If I had been painting these for myself they would have been very very shiny 😁
All the best. Aly
These look great. So what is the painting trick to getting the old toy soldier look?
ReplyDeleteThank you...
DeleteI think these are more of a new old toy soldier look...
To be quite honest on these figures the secret...if that it what it is... is to be as neat as possible... keep the colours clean and the edges straight.
All the best. Aly
