Shiny Napoleonics... French Grenadiers a Cheval of the Imperial Guard.

Greetings...
Yet more shiny things...

The French Grenadiers a Cheval of the Imperial Guard...

This is a unit that I bought some time ago on eBay...
It was quite neatly painted in flat colours so I thought I would just go for giving it a bit tarting up...
In the end it took a little longer than I thought it would...

Matching the colours was easy enough... but then I decided that I would redo all the Orange/Aurore piping and braid... this also meant that the red outer edging would need to be done as well..
I also re-painted the plumes and most of the bugler... including his horse.

I gave them a wash of Aly's Brown Liquid then highlighted them up...
The belts and gauntlet cuffs were painted pure white.

Here is a better picture of the rather lovely GMB Standard...

I am very pleased with how these have turned out... It was well worth the extra time.

The Standard is GMB Designs...

And the bases are Warbases... https://warbases.co.uk/

Ok... Back to the 3rd Century...

All the best   Aly

  1. Shiny Minifigs, the good old days, pure nostalgia. Shiny late Romans, Marlburians I remember them well.

    1. This is something altogether pleasing about shiny Minifigs...
I have painted them with a matte finish in the past... but it just wasn’t... Shiny 😁

  2. Very.....SHINY.....Aly! I was going to ask the brand but PHIL above has confirmed what I had assumed, the ubiquitous 1970's Minifigs!

They are indeed an essential ingredient for a Napoleonic collection.

  5. Your collection is developing nicely. Have you got enough for a game yet ? When you do what rules will you be using ?

I haven’t got enough for a game yet... and to be honest I haven’t made any decisions about rules...
Though I have tried to base the toys up in a way that will work with most sets.

      All the best. Aly

They are a lovely looking unit... one of the things I like about the Imperial Guard Cavalry is their musicians.
I think I will pick up a few Front Rank Horse Grenadiers to add to the Drums and Shakos collection... it would be nice to paint them in a more detailed matte finish.

      All the best. Aly

I was trying to keep the trumpeters horse quite dark so it would sit well with the rest of the unit...
The base colour is Citadel Stormvermin Fur... and the dapple is the same with some light grey added and diluted with Lahmian Medium.

  13. Oh my what beauties. The dappled horse of the Trumpeter is particularly nice when seen in contrast to all those beautiful black horses!

I am pleased how everything came out... The trumpeters horse is actually darker than I would normally do but because he is ‘fronting’ so much black he stands out rather well.
